Counterfeit and pirated products account for 2.5% of world trade

NLP is a new player in the Portuguese legal profession. Founded by Sara Nazaré, Beatriz Lima and Joana Piriquito Santos, the firm aims to provide specialised legal services in intellectual property ("IP") matters.

In an exclusive interview with Jornal de Negócios, the partners discussed their reasons for launching this project, how the judicial system works in Portugal operates in this particular field and the significance of protecting corporate creations: "Portuguese companies' focus on technology and science fosters innovation, which is essential for securing IP rights (e.g. patents, trademarks, copyright). By promoting technology and innovation, IP not only contributes to a more sustainable future but also drives economic growth. We see a significant opportunity for growth in this market in Portugal, which is why we’re committed to it" said Joana Piriquito Santos.

Sara Nazaré added: "Clients’' needs vary greatly. When they approach us with specific issues, they expect solutions that are precise, concise and delivered swiftly. For this profile of client, it's challenging to reconcile these needs with the constraints of large hierarchical structures."

Beatriz Lima emphasized: "A 360º approach to IP and strong partnerships" are the cornerstone of our project.As a specialised firm, we strive to maintain close relationships with our clients. As IP lawyers our goal is to provide each client with a comprehensive response in this area."

In addition to the three founding partners, the NLP team includes two other lawyers: João Assunção (Managing Associate) and Filipe Gomes (Associate).
