On 5 June, the future of the pharmaceutical industry in Portugal was debated at RETHINKING PHARMA 2025.
Joana Piriquito Santos was part of the panel at the conference ‘Why (not) Portugal?’, in a round table moderated by Joana de Almeida (Head of Healthcare Abu Dhabi & Kuwait), alongside Raúl G. Saraiva (3xP Global) and Nuno Prego Ramos (Valvian).
The debate focused on the difficulty of transforming knowledge into real innovation in the market and the crucial role of intellectual property in unlocking value. The urgency of creating a true healthcare ecosystem became clear: with better infrastructure, more investment and a competitive European regulatory framework that positions Portugal (and the EU) as an attractive destination for clinical trials and pharmaceutical innovation.
The event was opened by Rui Santos Ivo (INFARMED), followed by Paulo Macedo (CGD), with a reflection on leadership and strategic vision in a time of change.
The morning session closed with the Leaders' Conference with Nelson Ferreira Pires, Miguel Rovisco de Andrade, Filipa Mota e Costa and Paulo Silva.
