Joana Piriquito Santos speaker at the UPC Extraordinary Seminar 2025

Joana Piriquito Santos will speak on 27 November at the UPC Seminar: “Jurisdiction and Enforcement of UPC Decisions”, in Brussels, about  "Damages and other remedies at the UPC".

This seminar will be organised by the Intellectual Property Litigation Commission, with the support of the UNION-IP BE national group and the Belgian Federal Public Service for Economy.

The evolution of litigation concerning European patents will be in the spotlight, with a particular focus on the Brussels I bis Regulation, the Unified Patent Court (UPC) system and the CJEU’s decision in the Electrolux case (C-339/22). Cross-border litigation coordination, enforcement mechanisms and the recognition of UPC decisions will also be discussed.

The roundtable, moderated by Véronique Pede (CAPE IP) and Monia Baccarelli (MBT IP), will also feature Professor Paul Torremans (University of Nottingham Commercial Law Centre, Faculty of Social Sciences), Judge Rian Kalden (UPC), Dr. Chris Stothers (Freshfields), Dr. François Pochart (August Debouzy), Judge Sam Granata (UPC), Dr. Miriam Kiefer (Kather Augenstein), and Enrique Armijo Chávarri (Elzaburu).
