VII Edition of the Supremo Moot Court de Justiça

Joana Piriquito Santos and Filipe Gomes served on the jury of the final round of the Supremo Moot Court de Justiça, joining judges and lawyers at the Portuguese Supreme Court for a debate on fundamental rights, intellectual property, and artificial intelligence.

On May 19, Joana Piriquito Santos and Filipe Gomes served on the judging panel of the final round of the 7th edition of the Supremo Moot Court de Justiça, held at the Portuguese Supreme Court (Supremo Tribunal de Justiça).

The event was organised by ELSA Portugal (European Law Students’ Association), with the support of the High Council for the Judiciary (Conselho Superior da Magistratura).

This year’s competition focused on Fundamental Rights, Intellectual Property, and Artificial Intelligence, fostering an in-depth debate on the boundaries of text and data mining and the impact of generative AI, in a case drafted by the High Council for the Judiciary.

In addition to the NLP lawyers, the final round jury included Justices Maria dos Prazeres Beleza, Ricardo Costa, and Isabel Salgado, as well as lawyer Nuno Salazar Casanova from Uría Menéndez.

The team from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto won first place in this edition, with the jury also awarding Pilar Guimarães, from the same institution, the Best Oralist Prize.
