Joana Piriquito Santos appointed to the PMAC list of neutrals

With effect from 1 June 2026, Joana Piriquito Santos has been appointed for a five-year term as an arbitrator and expert and included on the list of neutrals of the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) of the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

The PMAC is the specialised alternative dispute resolution body within the UPC system, providing institutional support for mediation and arbitration proceedings in patent matters. With offices in Lisbon and Ljubljana, the Centre aims to offer flexible, efficient and confidential mechanisms for resolving patent disputes, complementing litigation before the UPC.

Joana Piriquito Santos’s appointment recognises her experience in patent law and alternative dispute resolution. Following this appointment, she will join the list of neutrals from which parties may select arbitrators and experts for proceedings submitted to the PMAC.

This appointment strengthens NLP’s involvement in the development of the UPC ecosystem and its engagement with the evolution of specialised mechanisms for resolving patent disputes in Europe.
