João Assunção at the 44th ECTA Annual Conference in Dublin

João Assunção represented NLP at the 44th ECTA Annual Conference, held in Dublin from 17 to 19 June 2026 under the theme “Green Light for Growth”.

Annual ECTA Conference brought together intellectual property professionals from multiple jurisdictions in Dublin, in a programme focused on how intellectual property supports sustainable growth, technological innovation and the integration of ESG criteria into corporate strategies.

Over the three days, participants discussed the main current challenges in intellectual property, combining the perspectives of industry, IP practitioners and public authorities, as well as portfolio management in the context of green technologies and the impact of artificial intelligence in sectors such as pharma and cosmetics. The programme also included sessions on the influence of ESG factors on IP strategy, the risks of greenwashing and green claims in the field of geographical indications, a comparison between the European and US copyright systems, and the effects of AI in the design field, culminating in an update on recent European case law in intellectual property.

João Assunção’s participation provided close insight into these debates at a time when IP practice increasingly intersects with sustainability, responsible governance and technological transformation, with direct impact on decisions concerning the protection, management and valorisation of intangible assets.NLP’s participation reflects its close engagement with developments in intellectual property law at European and international level.
