Joana Piriquito Santos has been appointed President of the UNION-IP Patent Commission at the 2026 Congress in Amsterdam.
A member of UNION-IP, an international intellectual property organisation, since 2017, Joana has served as Vice-President of the Patent Commission for the past six years. She now takes on the role of President, together with Vice-Presidents Florian Malescha, Founding Partner at SKM-ip, and Ariane Lessmann, Partner at Partnerin.
During her time at UNION-IP, Joana has been actively involved in the organisation of several international events and in the preparation of working papers submitted on behalf of UNION-IP, contributing to discussions on key developments in patent law at European level. In this context, she is also a member of the SACEPO Working Party on the Guidelines for Examination of the European Patent Office.
This appointment further reinforces NLP’s active role within the European and international patent community.
